The Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program is a new statewide initiative that offers qualified veterans the opportunity to receive free, accelerated entrepreneurship education. The pilot program, which launched in March, leverages resources and expertise from a network of partners, including the State of Florida, Veterans Florida, the Florida Small Business Development Center, University of West Florida, University of North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University, Institute for Entrepreneurship, Florida Atlantic University and Hillsborough Community College’s Institute for Corporate & Continuing Education.
The Sticky Wicket
The Florida Small Business Development Center received notification of their award for the program and the corresponding grant at the beginning of December 2015. In order to accept the opportunity and bring this vital program to the state, the organization knew it was paramount to have a brand new site designed, developed and launched no later than the beginning of February 2016. Phew, talk about a tight timeline! Thanks to the long-standing, awesome relationship we have with the FSBDC team, we texted, emailed and sent carrier pigeons back and forth over the holidays and were able to successfully design, develop, beta test and launch floridavetbiz.org by February 1.
The Awesome Sauce
- FSBDC exceeded their goal of registrations for the Vet program weeks before the due date.
- Average site visit sessions are longer than a minute and a half and site visitation increased to nearly 8,000 in a two-month time period.
